"-kndiscount 5" is not a meaningful option.  
I assume you mean "-kndiscount5",  which enables KN discounting just for
order 5 ngrams.

you are right: if no -order option is specified the default is use, which is
-order 3.  In that case -kndiscount5 is ignored.
