NETSCAPE/NUANCE DEMO

Connects the Address Book with the Dialer

Proposition
The value proposition we're going to make for implementing Nuance
Conversational Transactions is:
"You've invested a lot in giving Intranet/Browser access to your
databases. Some of these databases have many records and require several
parameters to be specified for a complete query. Now you can make those
databases available to people who have access to the millions of
telephones located in places without Browsers."
The goals of the demo that we show at DevCon should 1) support this
proposition and 2) demonstrate Nuance's interest in being a good citizen
in the Internet community by showing interoperability with Internet
standards.
The Nuance Dialer demonstration could fulfill both of these goals.
First, it demonstrates how access to a corporate directory currently
being accessed via desktop application (the Netscape Communicator Address
Book) can now, thanks to Nuance, also be accessed over the phone. Second,
the use of the Communicator Address Book shows that Nuance technology
interoperates seamlessly with the products they are already using. (Other
widely used, off-the-shelf PIMs could provide the same benefit if they
provided support for some Internet standard, such as LDAP.)
Using the Dialer accessed from either the Communicator Address Book or
the telephone, the demonstration flow would be:
SAY: "You've invested in making corporate databases, such as company
directories, price lists, customer lists and order status available on
your Intranet. Now you can make that same information available to people
who only have a phone available. In this case, we're looking at the
Communicator Address Book, which is actually accessing a database stored
in the Netscape Directory Server. It's easy, of course, to search for a
name and dial the phone."
DO: Search for a name, and double click it to show the phone number.
Press the "Dial" button to dial the phone.
SAY: However, when your employees aren't near a machine running a Browser
or the Communicator Address Book, they probably ARE near a telephone.
Here's how Nuance allows them to get to the same information."
DO: Pick up the handset, and call the Dialer. Speak the same name that
you searched for in the previous step. Hold on until the Dialer says
"dialing..."
SAY: "Nuance technology even supports the rapid changes that are probably
a part of maintaining your databases. For example, if a user adds a name
to the Address Book, it's immediately available over the phone."
DO: Add a name to the Address Book, either by typing it or using the
Internet search capability. Pick up the phone and speak the name to show
the AutoPron capability.
SAY: "We've just made a Conversational Transaction. Nuance products
generalize to querying and updating all kinds Intranet and Extranet
databases. Good examples are financial services and travel. DO: Show
TickerTalk or BillPayer to further demonstrate Nuance's ability to
provide access to large, complex Intranet or Extranet databases.
